Roger Finch has done it again and again. On
the 4th of August 2013 he completed the 26.4 Km International
Self-Transcendence Marathon Swim in Lake Zurich from Rapperswil to
Zurich in 8hrs 47mins. Then he beetled off to New York celebrating his
56th birthday on Thursday the 15th of August. On Friday the 16th had a
1.2 Km warm-up swim around (the Statue of) Liberty Island before (on
Sunday the 18th) completing the 17.5 mile (28 Km) Ederle Swim from
Manhattan Island, past Governors Island, under the Verrazano-Narrows
Bridge, out into Lower Bay (the Atlantic Ocean) and finishing on the
beach at Sandy Hook, New Jersey in 8hrs 11mins. All in 15 days. Not too
shabby for a 56 year old. He is now tooting off to Dover to help Otto
Thaning with his Channel swim.

- On
the 1st of October 2012 Roger Finch (Wahoo) became the 67th swimmer to join
an elite group of long distance swimmers who have completed what is known as
the "Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming". He achieved this by completing
the +- 34Km swim from Catalina Island to the mainland of Southern California
at Point Vincente near the Port of Los Angeles next to Long Beach. This
channel is known as the Catalina Channel or San Pedro Channel. Roger, who
had hurt his elbow just a day before the swim, started his swim at
about 23:25 (PDT) on Sunday the 30th of September and finished 9 hours 45
minutes and 02 seconds later. The swim's daylight hours were mostly in thick fog. The
other 2 swims making up the Triple Crown are the Manhattan Island Marathon
Swim and the English Channel. Roger is really making a name for himself in
international long distance swimming and he has plans to attempt a double
crossing of the English Channel in 2013. Congratulations Roger on yet
another outstanding achievement.
Triple Crown
of Open Water Swimming:Membership
requires the authenticated completion of three famous marathon swims: (1) 21
miles (33.7K) across the English Channel between England and France, (2) 21
miles (33.7K) across the Catalina Channel in Southern California, USA, and
(3) 28.5 miles (45.8K) around the Manhattan Island in New York, USA.

Roger Finch does it again. Yesterday (Saturday 23rd June 2012) Roger successfully completed the
Manhattan Island Marathon Swim. This is a 28.5 mile (46Km) counter clockwise
swim around the Manhattan Island in New York City. Roger completed the swim in
approximately 8 hours and 15 minutes. Roger had his personal tracking system
activated and the GPS device was positioned on his support boat. Tracking his progress in real-time was available
here. Roger's website can be found
here and the MIMS website
here. Well done
Roger - another outstanding performance. Roger's next challenge will be a
double crossing of the English Channel planned for August 2013.
- Roger
Finch (Wahoo) completed the Rottnest Channel Swim of approximately 19.7Km
off Perth in Australia for the second time on Saturday the 25th of February.
His time was 6:28:25. Well done Roger.
Roger is one of only 40 swimmers
who have qualified and been accepted for the Manhattan Island Marathon Swim
of approximately 46Km (28.5 Miles) on June 23, a full counter clockwise
circumnavigation of the island in New York City.
After that he is
planning a double crossing of the English Channel that he has booked for
August 2013. Roger completed a single crossing on the 20th August 2011 (see
below).
Roger's website is at http://www.rogerf.co.za.

qualification.
- Wahoo swimmer
Roger Finch successfully completed the English Channel Swim
for which he has been preparing for some years. Starting shortly after 3am Dover
time today (Sat 20th Aug 2011) Roger completed the swim at 3:48pm in 12hrs 35mins
07secs. Liz Web from Dolphins
Masters provided him with support and swam with him for short periods as
provided for in the rules. Tracking his progress in real-time was available
on Roger's website and was fascinating. Well done
Roger - a fantastic performance.
