held in Oudtshoorn in the Western Cape
from the 28th of February to the 2nd of March 2002


344 Swimmers entered and 326 eventually competed.
23 Foreign swimmers from Zimbabwe, Ukraine, USA, Canada, Great Britain, & Switzerland entered.


1 World Record was broken

61 South African Individual Records were broken
(2 of them twice by the same swimmer)

7 Inaugural South African Individual Records were established
plus
4 South African Relay Records were broken.

10 Second and third place finishers also bettered the previous SA Record.
