held at the Joan Harrison Swimming
Pool in East London, Eastern Cape
from the 11th to the 14th of March 2009
378 Swimmers (174 women and 204 men) entered, of whom 3 were foreign swimmers from Swaziland.
345 Swimmers eventually competed.
333 Swimmers scored points for their club in individual races.
270 Relay teams were entered.
There were 8 swimmers entered who were 80 years and older.
The oldest female competitor was
Rae Smit (89).
The oldest male competitor was Jack Brink (89).
RECORDS
2 World Records were broken by 1 swimmer (Sanderina Kruger) in the individual events.
38 South African Records were broken by 21 swimmers in the individual events.
6 South African Records were broken by 4 clubs in the relay events.
1 World Record and 2 South African Records were broken in the Dash-for-Cash events.
In addition 2 second place finishers (1 individual and 1 relay) also bettered the old South African Record.
COLOURS
South African Masters Swimming Colours qualifying times were bettered 56 times by 24 different South African Swimmers during the championships.
29 Swimmers (17 women & 12 men) who qualified throughout the 2008/2009 season were awarded their Colours.
In addition there were 3 swimmers who qualified on time in the 2008/2009 season but have yet to participate in 3 national long course championships.

OPEN WATER SWIM:
The 3Km Open Water Swim on the Nahoon River was cancelled due to large numbers of jellyfish in the water all along the route. A 1Km swim was held in the Joan Harrison pool as consolation.
The 1Km results have now been made available. These are the full results as received from the organizers.
